Star India batsman Ajinkya Rahane split the webbing on his right hand while fielding during the fourth One-Day International against Australia, in Canberra, on Wednesday and is likely to miss the final match of the series in Sydney.
The batsman required four stitches on the webbing of his right hand, but came out to bat late in the Indian innings after the loss of quick wickets.
The Mumbai right-hander scored just two off three balls as India lost by 25 runs and will in all probability be rested for the fifth ODI in Sydney on January 23.
The injury puts his participation in the subsequent three-match T20 International series in doubt.
