Gill Tries To Fix His Spin Problems

Ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket team underwent an intense net session in Colombo.

The Indian team underwent a gruelling session in the nets at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo, ahead of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka.

India lead the two Test series 1-0 after their emphatic 165 run win in the first Test in Galle.

Captain Shubman Gill had a long stint against the spinners in the nets, hoping to work out his weakness against spin. He was dismissed by left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya in both innings in Galle, after scoring only 16 and 8.

Overall, Gill has been dismissed 11 times by left-arm spinners in Test cricket across 42 games.

Kuldeep Yadav attended the nets but he neither bowled nor batted, raising doubts about his inclusion for the second Test. Vice-Captain K L Rahul also missed the nets.

Saransh impressed during his stint in the nets on Friday when he bowled to Rishabh Pant and Gill. He did well to beat left-hander Pant a few times.

Manav Suthar was India's hero with the ball in the Galle Test. He picked up 10 wickets in the match -- including 6/55 in the second innings.

Bowling Coach Morne Morkel also rolled his arm over in the nets.

Devdutt Padikkal will look to continue his good form, after stroking a match-winning 167 in the first innings in Galle.

Sarfaraz Khan, who was brought in as the injury replacement for B Sai Sudharsan, enjoyed his stint in the nets as he hit the bowlers around the park. Barring injuries, the Mumbai right-hander is unlikely to make it to the playing XI.
