Statistical highlights: day five
December 15, 2008

Statistical highlights of the fifth and final day's play in the first cricket Test between India and England [Images] in Chennai on Monday.

Stats: Day 4

# Sachin Tendulkar [Images], with his 103 not out, his fifth Test hundred at Chepauk, has equalled the feats of Mohammad Azharuddin (5 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata) and Sunil Gavaskar [Images] (5 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai). They share the Indian record for most hundreds (5) at one venue.

# Tendulkar's 41st hundred is his seventh in 23 Tests against England. He is the first player to post seven hundreds in India-England Tests, beating Azharuddin's tally of six centuries in 15 Tests.

# Tendulkar has achieved another distinction in the course of his outstanding innings of 103 not out. For the fifth time in his Test career, he has amassed 1,000 runs in a calendar year, emulating the feats of West Indian, Brian Lara [Images] and Australia's [Images] Matthew Hayden [Images].

# Tendulkar is the third Indian and the sixth batsman to amass 1,000 runs this year - the top six being Virender Sehwag [Images] (1445), Graeme Smith [Images] (1363), VVS Laxman (1071), Sachin Tendulkar(1047), Hashim Amla (1012) and Neil McKenzie (1002).

# Tendulkar became the first player to appear in 50 Test wins for India.

# Gautam Gambhir's [Images] first fifty against England is his eighth in Test Cricket.

# Gambhir has amassed 858 at an average of 61.28, including two centuries and five fifties this year - his best ever performance in a calendar year.

# For the first time in his career, Rahul Dravid [Images] has recorded single digit scores in two successive Tests (four innings) - 0 and 3 vs Australia at Nagpur, 3 and 4 vs England at Chennai.

# Since the 2002 Headingley Test (52.76) against England, Dravid's career average (52.12) is the lowest ever.

# In the calendar year 2008, his batting average is 27.87 - 669 in 14 Tests, including one century and four fifties.

# Yuvraj (85 not out) registered his best score against England, bettering his 37 at Mumbai in 2005-06.

# Yuvraj's first fifty against England is his fourth in Test Cricket.

# The 163-run unbroken stand between Sachin and Yuvraj is India's highest for the fifth wicket against England at Chennai, bettering the 118 between Sachin and Pravin Amre in 1992-93.

# Sehwag's 7th Man of the Match award is his first against England.

# India created cricket history with their superb triumph over England - their first ever winning total of 300-plus in the fourth innings of a Test match in India.

# India's successful run-chase is the highest ever total by any team in the fourth innings of a Test match in the sub-continent - for the first time, a total of 300-plus has been recorded in the fourth innings of a Test match on Indian soil to register a win, eclipsing the previous best of 276 for 5 by West Indies [Images] against India in the 1987-88 Delhi [Images] Test.

# Before the 2008-09 Chennai Test, the highest fourth innings total on Indian soil was India's 364 for six (target 390) against Pakistan at Delhi in 1979-80.

# India recorded their 19th win in 98 Tests against England - 34 lost and 45 drawn.

# At Chepauk, India have won 12, lost six, drawn 11 and one tied game out of 30 played.

# Dhoni [Images] became the first Indian captain to have posted wins in his first four Tests.
