Sussex were crowned English county cricket champions in style when they thrashed Nottinghamshire by an innings and 245 runs in their last match of the season at Trent Bridge on Friday.

Pakistani leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed took nine for 48 -- including his 100th wicket of the season -- as Nottinghamshire were all out for 150, following on after managing only 165 in the first innings.

Sussex were always in command after declaring at 560 for five in their first innings, leaving Lancashire to battle it out with Hampshire for second spot.

It is Sussex's second championship in four years after they won it for the first time in 2003 and completes a great year after they also won the one-day C&G Trophy.
