Mushtaq named bowling consultant

January 10, 2006 17:50 IST

Pakistan cricket authorities have appointed leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed as a bowling consultant for the home series against India.

They stopped short of naming him as an assistant coach to Bob Woolmer [Images] on a long-term basis.

"The team management wanted Mushtaq as they felt he had a done a good job helping the bowlers during the one-day series against England [Images]," a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said on Tuesday.

Mushtaq was recalled to the Test squad for the series against England in November but did not play any of the matches. He was dropped for the one-day internationals against England but retained as a bowling consultant for that series.

The three-match Test series between Pakistan and India starts on Friday.
