The Board of Control for Cricket in India has said that the tri-series in Sri Lanka [Images] will go on as planned after doubts over it due to a blast near the players' hotel, Taj Samudra in Colombo.

The Indian cricketers were safe in their hotel rooms when the powerful explosion took place near the Sri Lankan President's residence.

The security arrangements have been tightened further at the team hotel - Taj Samudra, which is about 3 km from where the explosion took place.

"All the players were in hotel rooms when the blast took place. There is nothing to worry," media manager Rajan Nair said.

The Indians were scheduled to have a practice session in the morning but it had to be abandoned because of rain. It was decided the practice would be held in the afternoon, but a fresh downpour forced them to stay indoors.

"We were about to leave for the afternoon session. But had to put off the programme because of the rain. So at the time of the blast, the entire team was in the hotel," Nair said.

The Sri Lankan cricket authorities also confirmed that the tri-series would be held as originally scheduled despite the bomb blast.

The chief executive officer of Sri Lanka Cricket Duleep Mendis had a meeting with coaches and managers of the three participating teams in the wake of the bomb blast which has left seven dead and injured eight.

After the discussions, it was decided to go ahead with the series and give maximum security to the three teams.

"The security has already been beefed up for the three teams and the tournament will go ahead as per schedule," Sri Lanka Cricket media manager Samantha Algama said.

He said Sri Lanka Cricket is concerned by the security scenario, but is confident that the series will pass off without any untoward incident.
