India's captain Sourav Ganguly [Images] had on Thursday created a storm in cricket circles by implying that pressure was put on him by coach Greg Chappell [Images] to step down from captaincy on the eve of the first Test against Zimbabwe, in Bulawayo, which India won by an innings and 90 runs.

"Yes, it was suggested [stepping down from captaincy]. I was under a lot of pressure," Ganguly told reporters on the third day of the Test after scoring a patient 101.

He went on to add: "You know what has been happening in Indian cricket. Other people are making the decisions. My silence says everything, so I will stick to it."

Though many of Ganguly's supporters feel he did no wrong in speaking his mind out, his utterances before the media were certainly brash and in bad taste, and could well create a division between him and the coach and his team mates.
