I can't just go bang bang now: Tendulkar

October 01, 2004 11:00 IST

Doctors and Indian team physiotherapist Andrew Leipus have adviced Sachin Tendulkar not to bat for more than ten minutes at a stretch initially, the injured master batsman said in Mumbai on Friday.

"I have been advised to take gradual steps initially during practice as I have not played for six weeks and there's some muscle loss (in the left elbow). I can't just go bang bang. I have been advised to bat only for ten minutes at a stretch to begin with, and not for say two or three hours," Tendulkar told PTI.

The ace batsman has been out of action since the Indian team went to Holland for the tri-series in the third week of August and there is a question mark whether he would be fit for the first Test against Australia commencing on October 6.

Asked whether he would be able to make it for the Bangalore Test, Tendulkar said, "Andrew (Leipus) will be speaking to the captain and coach on Friday (in Bangalore where the selection committee is scheduled to meet to pick the team) and let me know," he said.
