PCB chief to meet Musharraf next week

May 15, 2004 16:08 IST

Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Shaharyar Khan has sought an audience with President Pervez Musharraf next week to discuss "outstanding issues", including what should be the role of Chief Executive of PCB.

Sources in the Board said Shaharyar has asked the Presidency to arrange for a meeting with Musharraf, who is also the Chief Patron of the Board.

"Shaharyar obviously wants to discuss some outstanding cricket issues which have been held up as he wants to take approval from the Chief Patron before implementing the decisions," sources were quoted as saying in local daily 'The News'.

One of the most important items on Shaharyar's agenda when he meets with Musharraf would be to seek his opinion on whether to advertise for the CEO's post. "Or to get the Chief Patron to instruct Rameez Raja not to do commentary while he is working as Chief Executive in the Board," they said.

Shaharyar, while praising the contribution and role of Raja in the Board and in the organisation of the recent home series against India, has insisted that in order to have transparency and democracy in the PCB, he wanted to advertise for all the top posts including that of the Chief Executive.

The PCB Chief, during his meeting with Musharraf, will also submit the outline of the report prepared by the Lahore University of Management Sciences on the present administrative set-up of the Board.
