Lara gets another record

Rajneesh Gupta | June 27, 2004

West Indies captain Brian Lara became the most successful batsman for his country in one-day internationals in his innings of 36 in the rain-abandoned NatWest triangular series match against New Zealand on Saturday.

Lara's run-aggregate at the end of the match reads 8671 from 234 appearances at an average of 42.50. Haynes had a tally of 8648 runs in 238 matches.

Lara now holds the top slot for West Indies in both forms of cricket. He has a tally of 9830 runs from 108 Test appearances – highest for West Indies and fourth highest in the world.

Only one other player -- former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper batsman Andy Flower -- has scored most runs in both forms of cricket for his country.
