Pakistan crush Papua New Guinea

February 16, 2004 15:29 IST

Pakistan beat Papua New Guinea by eight wickets after bowling the Pacific islanders out for 60 runs in the Under-19 World Cup Group 'D' match at the Khulna Divisional Stadium in Bangladesh on Sunday.

It took Pakistan only 14.5 overs to reach their modest target – exactly three overs less than the PNG innings – in front of a crowd of over 6,000.

The damage was done by opening bowlers Riaz Afridi (4-15) and Wahab Riaz (2-27) with Mansoor Amjad wrapping up the innings with three wickets in only 11 balls.

Only one PNG batsman, Asad Vala with 10, could manage a double figures score as they folded up for just 60 in 17.5 overs.

In reply, the Pakistani batsmen easily overhauled the target in the 15th over for the loss of two wickets.

Brief Scores:

Papua New Guinea Under-19: 60 all out in 17.5 overs (R Afridi 4-15, W Rias 2-27, M Amjad 3-5).

Pakistan Under-19: 63 for 2 in 14.5 overs (J Mirza 24, J Boto 2-15).
