BCCI steps forward to help Ramchand

September 06, 2003 18:33 IST

In a noble gesture, the Board for Control for Cricket in India granted Rs 2 lakh to former Indian skipper G S Ramchand, who is undergoing treatment for a stroke in Mumbai, on Saturday.

"We have been informed that G S Ramchand is sick and has been admitted to hospital. The Board has decided to grant Rs 2 lakh on ad-hoc basis for his treatment," said BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya in Kolkata

He also said the Board would consider granting more money if required in the future.

BCCI's decision apparently came in the wake of resentments expressed by a number of former crickets, including the legendary Mustaq Ali, about the Board's indifference to their plight.
