But Laxman, the man for a crisis, played a steady knock and prevented the tourists from getting a huge lead. In the process he also completed his fifth Test century.

He scored 279 runs in the two Tests at an average of 139.50, with a century and two half-centuries, and was rightly named Man of the Series.
