At 33, Chris Harris is one of the veterans in the New Zealand team. But he is still one of the fittest in world cricket today. He is also regarded as one of the best fielders on the circuit. Five days short of his 34th birthday, Harris is also one of the hardest bowlers to hit.
He took his first step in international cricket with a one-day debut against Australia at Sydney in November 1990.
Since then, he has played 235 one-day internationals, scoring 4178 runs at 29.63 with a century and 15 half-centuries. He has also picked 199 wickets at 36.97.
He has just played 23 Test matches and has always been considered as a one-day specialist.
He has played in four World Cups for New Zealand, the first one being the 1992 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. And he has made no secret of the fact that he would like to play another one.
His finest moment with the bat came when he scored 130 against Australia in the 1996 World Cup quarterfinal in Chennai.
His single five-wicket haul came against Pakistan in December 1996, when he took 5 for 42 in his 10 overs although New Zealand lost the match by 46 runs.
He has given his all to New Zealand cricket throughout the last eleven years he has played and no wonder his place in the team has rarely come under threat.
