Chandi Ganguly elected to CAB

July 26, 2003 21:39 IST

India skipper Sourav Ganguly's father Chandi Ganguly was formally elected chairman of the trustee board of the Cricket Association of Bengal, while Jagmohan Dalmiya retained his post as president on Saturday.

Unlike last year when Dalmiya faced a challenge in Debdas Banerjee for the president's chair, this year's annual general meeting was a tame affair with no rival candidates for any of the posts.

Chandi Ganguly, till now a member of the trustee board, replaces Biswanth Dutt, who stepped down as trustee board chairman a few days ago.

Dutt, a former BCCI president, has said he had played his innings at the CAB and wanted to pave the way for infusion of fresh blood.

West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman Mukul Gopal Mukherjee, former West Bengal chief minister Siddhartha Shankar Roy, A P Roy and noted former umpire Bhairab Ganguly are the other members of the trustee board, with the last named filling up the post left vacant by Chandi Ganguly's elevation to the chairman's post.

Bablu Koley and Sudhir Chakraborty were unanimously re-elected as joint secretaries while Amitava Banerjee will continue as treasurer.
