"It was Gavaskar
The real master
Just like a wall
We couldn't get Gavaskar at all, not at all
You know the West Indies couldn't out
Gavaskar at all."

These are the lyrics of a famous Calypso song, composed by Lord Relator, as a tribute to Sunil Manohar Gavaskar's stunning debut against the West Indies in 1971.

Gavaskar was then only 21 when he compiled 774 in four Tests against Gary Sobers's West Indians, which included four centuries, at a Bradmansque average of 154.80.

A photo-feature in celebration of the Indian icon on his 54th birthday, on July 10.
