Boje to have surgery on broken leg

July 09, 2003 16:49 IST

South Africa spinner Nicky Boje will undergo surgery in Nottingham on Wednesday after breaking his shin bone against England in a one-dayer on Tuesday, a team spokesman said.

The 30-year-old turned over his ankle as he fielded a ball immediately after coming on as a substitute fielder, breaking his left shin and spraining ankle ligaments in the match at Edgbaston.

Batsman Martin van Jaarsveld has been released from hospital after undergoing a scan after being struck by the ball in the groin area.
