Players will have to abide by 30-day clause: Dalmiya

The Board of Control for Cricket in India president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Saturday said the Indian cricketers will have to abide by the 30-day clause stipulated in the ICC contract, while giving them time till Monday to sign it.

The controversial clause does not allow team members from 30 days before the first match until 30 days after the last match in the event to directly or indirectly allow his name, voice, image, likeness or other representation to be used by any competitor of the sponsors of the tournament.

He said the team for the Champions Trophy tournament in Sri Lanka, beginning September 12, will be selected on September 9 in Kolkata.

After a four-hour meeting of the working committee of the board in Delhi, Dalmiya offered to compensate the players for any loss suffered by signing the contract.

Regarding the other contentious clause in the contract on the use of players' images, he said three of the four tournament sponsors had given it in writing that they will not call the Indian players for imaging. "The other sponsor, South African Airways, has said they are not interested in players of countries other than South Africa," he said. "Thus, this issue has been resolved," he said.
