3rd Test, Day 2 at Bridgetown, Barbados

** Ramnaresh Sarwan, who has an aggregate of 1248 runs in 20 Test matches, is yet to record a Test hundred. His 60 was his 11th fifty of his career. He now equals the fifty tally of former keeper Deryck Murray - the most fifties by a West Indian batsman without a Test hundred.

Murray (1993 runs, 11 fifties), Malcolm Marshall (1810, 10) & Curtly Ambrose (1439, 1) are the other West Indian batsmen who have scored over 1000 Test runs, without a hundred.

For the record, former Indian opener Chetan Chauhan (2084 runs in 40 matches) has the maximum scores of fifties (16) among batsmen without a Test hundred.

** Ashish Nehra has now joined a select band of left-arm pace bowlers who have had the distinction of claiming Lara’s wicket in Test cricket on two occasions. The others being: Pakistani Wasim Akram, and Australians Mike Whitney & Brendon Julian.

For the record, among left-arm bowlers (both pace and spin) who have dismissed Lara on most occasions is Indian left-arm spinner Venkatapathy Raju who has done so on four occasions.

** This was the fourth occasion Lara has been dismissed “caught & bowled” by the bowler. Interestingly all the four bowlers involved have been left-armers - Sri Lankan Sajeeva deSilva, Wasim Akram, South African Paul Adams and now Nehra.

** Carl Hooper (70*, when on 41) became the 8th West Indian and the 23rd batsman overall to aggregate 1000 Test runs against India. Hooper was playing in his 14th match and 22nd innings against India.

** By close of the second day, Hooper has taken his aggregate for the series to 375 runs, which is the maximum he has achieved in a Test series during entire Test career since his debut in 1987-88. He bettered his previous best performance of 362 runs in the five match Test series in Australia in 1996-97. Incidentally, Hooper’s best in a home series was the 358 runs against South Africa last season.

** With the Hooper-Chanderpaul partnership already putting on an unbeaten 153 runs, this is the first time a West Indian pair has been involved in a 150-plus partnership for the fifth wicket on two separate occasions. The same pair was involved in a 293 runs partnership for the 5th wicket in the first Test at Georgetown.

** The above partnership was also the home team’s best against India at this venue bettering the 133 runs between Clive Lloyd and Gus Logie in April 1983.
