Indian cricketers wish Jeev luck

Ace Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, who became the first Indian to make it to the main draw of the prestigious US Open, received a pleasant surprise early Friday morning in the form of a faxed message from a few members of the Indian cricket team.

Jeev, who was on his way to the golf course, was handed the fax by the receptionist at the Hilton Huntingdale, where he is staying this week.

Jeev Milkha Singh The message, signed by Ashish Nehra, Murali Kartik, Nikhil Chopra, Rahul Sanghvi and Vijay Dahiya, wished Jeev luck, with the cricketers also stating that they drew tremendous inspiration form Jeev's achievement.

'You are our own Tiger Woods,' the message concluded.

"It was a pleasant surprise, receiving a message from the cricketers. I am a pretty big cricket fan myself and it is a nice feeling that the cricketers too keep track of my career," said the 30-year old Jeev.

"I will try my best to live up to their expectations," he added.

While Ashish Nehra and Murali Kartik were members of the recent one-day squad that toured the West Indies, Nikhil Chopra, Vijay Dhaiya and Rahul Sanghvi had represented the country with distinction in the past and are still contenders for a berth in the national squad.

Jeev, who achieved his life-long ambition of playing the US Open, is looking for an improved performance in the second round after shooting a five-over 75 in his opening round.
