Statistical Highlights

Mohandas Menon

** Javagal Srinath became the fifth Indian player and the 24th overall to appear in 200 LOI matches. Srinath now joins Pakistani Wasim Akram (323 matches), fellow Indian Kapil Dev (225), Pakistani Waqar Younis (220) and West Indian Courtney Walsh (205) to become the fifth pace bowler to appear in over 200 matches in LOIs.

** When he claimed the wicket of Knight, Srinath became the highest wicket-taker for India against England. He now has 29 wickets in 16 matches. Kapil Dev had 28 wickets in 23 matches.

** Playing in his 8th match Michael Vaughan (63) recorded his maiden fifty of his career. His previous best was the 26 against Sri Lanka at Colombo (Premadasa) on 25-3-2001.

** Paul Collingwood (71 not out) made the highest score by an Englishman at this ground. He bettered the 69 made by Keith Fletcher against India on 27-1-1982.

** The 51 run partnership between Collingwood and Jeremy Snapes was the best at this ground for the seventh wicket bettering the 47 between New Zealanders John Bracewell and Evan Gray and the home team on 12-12-1988.

** Tendulkar has now been dismissed "run-out" for the 24th time in his career spanning 274 innings. He is however still well short of the Indian record of 32 "run-outs" held by Mohammad Azharuddin. For the record, the only other time, Tendulkar was dismissed in such a manner against England was at Leeds on 25-5-1996.

** The partnership of 79 runs between Tendulkar and Dinesh Mongia was the best for India at this venue for the second wicket. The pair bettered the previous best of 47 between Ravi Shastri and Dilip Vengsarkar also against England on 27-12-1984.

** The partnership of 38 runs between Ajit Agarkar and Anil Kumble was the best by any team at this venue for the ninth wicket. The pair bettered the previous best of just 19 runs between Sri Lankans Sanath Jayasuriya and Don Anurasiri against the home team on 28-12-1990.

** The wicket of Kumble was Darren Gough's 150th wicket of his career in 97th match. He becomes the first Englishman and the 29th bowler in LOIs to reach this landmark.

** This was England's first win in the subcontinent since its last against Pakistan at Karachi on 24-10-2000. Since then England had lost six matches in a row (2 in Pakistan, 3 in Sri Lanka and one in India).

** For India it was its first loss at this venue after winning four matches in row since November 1994.

** Collingwood, in his ninth match, won his second man of the match award of his career. He had earlier won an award against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on 10-10-2001.
