England eves in a comfortable position

A sparkling 110-run seventh wicket partnership by L K Newton (98) and C J Connor (48) propelled the England Women's team to a comfortable 280 for seven at close on the opening day of their second Test against India at Taunton.

Put in to bat first, England were in a precarious position having lost 4 wickets for 70 and later 6 for 147.

But India could not drive home the advantage and allowed the home side to score 280 for seven.

India's medium pacer Goswami bagged three wickets for 44.
