Letter of the Day

November 1, 2001
Tendulkar's commitment suspect

Tendulkar lacks the two most important characteristics of a truly great batsmen: Temperament to play a long innings and perform when the going gets tough.

He has started doing what Gavaskar was often accused of; playing for personal records. During the past two years, he has played only one innings of character- the innings he played against Pakistan when they visited India.

Ganguly had once commented that he wouldn't want to score 25 centuries if they do not win games for India. Though he latter denied, I believe he was trying to send a signal to Tendulkar.

One thing worth noting is that Tendulkar has not won a match for India since Ganguly became captain. Is it just a co-incidence?

Signed
Sanjay Agarwal
