Action reaction -- Prem Panicker

Name:abhay baijal
Message:I think that the BCCI resembles another BCCI (remember the Pakistani Bank of Credit and Commerce International--one of the drug laundry fame). The fact is that the BCCI was the organizer of the biggest circus on earth with the PCB (Pakistani Cricket Board) in tow, and they had a cosy relationship in milking the poor cricket lover. Unfortunately, with the Indian Intelligence agencies getting alarmed with the way that Cricket lovers were being milked by the fixers to fund subversion and raise cash for a cash strapped Pakistan, their games seem to be getting up.

Name:Rao
Message:you expressed very elegantly , what we(my friends and myself) use to discuss here. excellent coverage..... atleast after this the board has to stop discussing and jump into action... bye Rao

Name:ravi
Message:I think this has been the way BCCI is working all the way. Imagine this students from US, many of them do work in various places and get paid hourly, already sent donations what all they could. Its sad that the BCCI has let the country down. student in US

Message:Dear Sir, I read your article about BCCI's conitnuing discussion for relief of Gujarat victims. You havent quoted how much time the BCCI took to meet the expenses of Mr.Dalmia running for the presidency of ICC (I think it runs in Crores). How much time it took for discussing the hotel and the place of meeting of the BCCI. How much time it took for enabling its members to visit foreign countries when our team play outside India. Something should be done to tie the bell on the cat. Today BCCI is the only sports organisation which makes crores of money and yet spending that, not for the cause of the game or for the benefit of the people of India. It is heartening for Indians like us who spend most of the time watching cricket whenever it is held and thus making the BCCI more richer. venkatasubramani.

Name:Chuck Inn
Message:The Sharjah proopsal by the BCCI was not for the Gujrat quake victims but to do what they initially wanted to do, ie- send the team to Sharjah. They probably see the quake as a heaven sent excuse. Why are we even talking about sick people like this? All ur viewers at Rediff have that basic common sense to know what is what when the bigwigs of the BCCI open their miserable mouths. Don't lets give them more coverage and actually make this issue one worth debating about.

Name:Bhavik
Message:This article really speaks about the pathetic functioning of our cricket board. This article should be placed before the parliament (coz its no point telling the thick skin BBCI guys) and they all should be sacked in public interest.

Message:Hi Prem, What a superb article. I mean sitting here in America my blood simply boils to see our long cherished game ,nay, religion being led to a slow death by these greedy, perverted corpulent beings who calls themselves human beings. Like yours, I have read several articles by people like Harsha Bhogle who feel so much for this institution called cricket, what it means not only to kids but also the aging, pot bellied fans, and what kinds of passions it stirs. I dont understand why is it that cement dealers, contractors, politicians and such unscrupulous elements run this game. If the ACB can think of our affected brothers and sisters in Gujarat, why cant the BCCI? I mean do they have skin or hides all over their bodies? What kind of leeches are they? No wonder people like me prefer running away from India, becoz it is such parasites that run and ruin all the various social and moral institutions in our country.Sometimes I feel like calling a firing squad ad finishing off that Jaggu Dalmiya, that Lele, that Rungta and all their cronies. The fact that people like them run the show keeps away stalwarts like Bedi,Gavaskar and Amarnath - upright men who say what is on their minds and do not resort to sly, cunning ways to retain their seats. I am so disgusted. Only God can help us now, HOPEFULLY. Disppointingly yours, Gautam

Message:It amazes me to no end as to what is/has been happening to cricket in our country. For a sport which is more a religion to us Indians, I wonder why we have allowed it to be hijacked by people who would'nt know one end of a bat from the other. It makes me feel depressed that all my writing my views and Prem writing his columns may never bring about a revolution which will end the domination of people who have neither the skill nor love of the game. Oh God! Please save Indian cricket.

Name:Sandesh
Message:Dear Prem I appreciate your efforts for showing what BCCI can do. I read it in your articles. I hope everybody reads it. But do you think your point reaches to the members of the BCCI? Don't you think all the so called contributers of the cricket articles should write about it collectively? Why don't you plea to these writers about it so that it will have a maximum effect? I like the way you write and express your concern about the way BCCI is organising things, But unless they read about it they are not going to be concern about their behaviour. Thanks Sandesh

Message:it was good decision not to play in Sharjah as what can these cricket officials do for our earthquake victims from a place where cricket is played less and betting is palyed in huge amounts. every one should reject money from cricket board and people like Lele and Dalmiya

Name:dr. vasudev
Message:BCCI can aptly be considered out of tune with reality, selfish, ignorant and truly an antinational organization. The attitude of the players who have benefitted so much from the sympathetic public is pathetic.

Name:hanumantha rao
Message:The candid views expressed by Prem Panicker regarding the response expressed by the richest cricket board in the whole world towards one of the most devastating calamities, the earthquake of Gujarat were really true. certainly our board is there only to appoint committees for tiny causes, but not to give the helping hand in these type of situations. that article was really worth reading.

Name:Sandeep Singh
Message:Prem: BCCI only represents our crippled system which is as dysfunctional in any other matter as in sports. Dysfunctional may be a strong word but that's how one feels when down low. Sandeep

Name:Harshad Pandit
Message:Prem, You have once again made it clear the point that Dalmiya and his bunch of yesmen are more interested in making a business out of the charity games rather than organising things from their heart. The people of Gujrat doesnt need any Dalmiyas or Leles to organize masala matches. You need a heart of gold and a love for our fellow citizens to get help organized. I am impressed with the extra step that the ACB took to help the Gujrat victims without making a hooplah out of it. Kudos to the Australian board and players for lending a helping hand when needed without displaying much fanfare. Its sad that the Indian board(who happen to be Indian citizens) havent learned much from it. Our BCCI is more interested in beating the drums and gaining publicity while organizing such charity events. They are more concerned of what they will get instead of what they will give to the needy! In short, our brothers and sisters in Gujrat do not need any Dalmiyas or any Sharjah masala matches to pull them out through all the suffering. We are more capable and sensible than the "Bunch of Jokers" who occupy the seats of the BCCI. -Harshad

Message:Excellent points, Prem. However, as far as the response to the earthquake relief effort, its basically everybody in a power position thats been that way. All of the government, central and state, took forever to "assess the situation". Its the private organizations that have done the most. Our politicians, both in the govt and in the BCCI, don't care. If it doesn't affect them personally, they could not care less. The zonal selector system is a joke, but it is the same problem that is affecting us everywhere. Does the Indian cricket team play as a team? No, they are divided by language, religion, caste and a dozen other barriers. As one of our Founders said, "Now that we have an India, we need to create some Indians." We are not there yet. Anil

Message:It's getting to the point where even a person like me who said or did nothing about such depressing news articles in the past feels sick enough to finally write something. I wish we could hang these people in the middle of "Mardi Gras", if you catch my drift. God help us from these illiterate (in academics and cricket) nincompoops...Anyway, here's my $0.02 cents ad: [TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN] If you're at least 20 years old and really feel that life has not been fair to you to the point that you would like to commit suicide, do us all a favor. Go see a shrink. And if it still feels hopeless, do us all another favor: Take some of these jerks with you..:-)

Message:I am bit emotional person, the emotiom is for my country whenever it compete for any game, I really feel shame for the state of sports in India. And its only because od bastered Indial sports administrators, Govt. is equally to balme, we need change in constitution for sports an donly qulified sports person who have good knoledge of game and represented india at international level atleast 25 times or more with the help of hired professionel managers should be allowed to manage the game. I would fist like to Axe K.P.S Gill(Hockey)P. D. Message:It would be a fitting reply to BCCI, if all the fellow Indians all over the world, boycott watching Cricket in any media whatever it may cause to them. Please, my dear fellow Indians, boycott all the matches conducted by BCCI, so that Government of India, ICC, BCCI and all the cricket loving nation will understand how people of India has been cheated, humiliated by those so-called heartless and headless bunch of jokers sitting in BCCI chamber.

Name:Rajasekhar
Message:BCCI is one of the most profitable organisations in the world and it is really disgusting to see such a lackadaisical effort being made by the board.it is really surprising to see the board still discussing the magnitude of the situation when its time to act and save people's lives.its time to realise that this is not a process of selecting a team where it has to look at the pros and cons but its a process of saving lives and soothing disturbed souls.they should start thinking as human beings go as per human instincts.

Message:Hi Prem and all sports reporters at rediff, I can't thank you enough for the articles you write about sports. Thanks to you we are update about sports in India. I would suggest that you could provide more coverage about duleep trophy and write about including Yuvraj singh and Reetinder Singh Sodhi in the problables. They are our futur and should be treated as such. Sharandeep singh and Murli Kartik are other two who should be given more chance. Thanks for more information on the aaaaaustralian effort to collect money for Gujrat relief fund.. rbn

Name:Kiriti Mukherjee
Message:Yes indeed, in this age, where speed is of the essence in almost everything you do, it is extremely depressing to find the management of BCCI continuing to "discuss" matters. It continues to move with the celerity of a mammoth dinosaur of the old ages in its most irrational and incorrigible ways. I think we should have the same movement as we had in World Chess.. let us have another BBCCI (Board of BETTER cricket control in India) comprised of people with sense and purpose, who are committed to improve the standard of cricket, manage their money better and be a lot more human towards causes like Gujrat. You, Prem, being in the media have the power to catalyze that and I urge you to raise a movement in that direction. Coming to the article, it very pertinent and extremely well written. Thanks!

Name:Venkatesh Jagadeesh
Message:One of the worst article I have ever read on rediff. I have been reading your site ever since it went on-line. The author had either done substance abuse while writing this or he is certifiable. A bowler being aggressive is one thing, but hurling abuses and bringing batsman's mother while sledging is unacceptable. Rediff should know that their site is accessable to everybody including teenagers and kids. You guys should be more carefull in publishing such articles. I am sure great spinners like Chandra and Prasanna earned their wickets thru their talents and thru abuses. Regards, Venkatesh

Name:Murali
Message:There is one more point that i would like to add. Where are the cricketers? They are among the richest in the country. They certainly dont become poor if they donate atleast "one day's" salary. Indian cricketers are never there when their country needs them, on or off the field. - Murali

Name:Frank
Message:Prem, I think you overdoing the BCCI bashing bit a little bit. You articles for the past couple of weeks has been only about bashing the BCCI. WE all get the picture that it is a loser of an organization. Lets get on with it.... and try changing things or forget aobut it and focus on greater issues... like mobilising an alternative organization to handle cricket in INdia... -Frank

Name:sanjay shankar
Message:Time and again, our BCCI gives us an example of how something should not be done. What else can we expect from a bunch of beaurocrats who are only interested in furthering their own pursuits?

Name:Ravindar Gujral
Message:To put it in prespective, the BCCI is a bloody F organisation, and the people running it don't know F about the game. It is abhoring to have an incompitent nin cum poof of the likes of jagmohan dalmia, who in his life time didn't even play school cricket while in kindergarden, run an organisation of this magnitude, for a cricket loving country like India. Everything apart, I guess people like jagmohan dalmia have got no sense of love for the game, all they worry about is money. I bet he sleeps on a pile of dollars or rupees, these people have lost it and even if we were to abuse them like mad, they would give us the smile of jim hacker or sir humphury as in yes minister and give all sort of gibrish reasons for having all the pleasures in the world while the hell broke loose. People like them give bad name to our country, and they should be terminated for the fear of furhtur humiliation to the game and the country.

Name:Raghu
Message:Awesome article!! should make pamplets out of this and distribute to all the cricket loving fans in India ... and as is the case most of the time in India people who nothing about cricket are selecting players and it is really shameful on the part of BCCI not to do something about Gujarat earthquake..

Name:Anoop T JACOB
Message:This has been going on for years, hasn't it? So, you have been pouring venom on these brilliant manupilators for a long time. So, what has come of it? Don't you just get the feeling that they could be laughing at you and your ilk? Why should they take you seriously, mate? So then, what have you achieved with this "all fire and brimstone"? Alas, precious little, I dare say, if anything at all. So here is something which has been on my mind for a long time. Have you heard of Garry Kasparov and his PCA? You should have, yeah? OK, if you have not, there was our home-grown Prakash Padukone. I am sure an avid sports fan like you would definitely have heard of our former World # 1 ?? Do you get what I am driving at, mate? So that is what we need in Cricket. Indian Cricket. It may involve some pain but then I would think the pain would be well worth it. And it will NOT take a titanic effort, mind you. Dr AC Muthiah, Mr Ashok Kumbhat (he is an Accountant and a former president of the ICAI(!!), for heaven's sake, not a professional cricketer!), Mr J Dalmiya and Co do not play cricket for the country and get BCCI their moolah. (Nor do they manage it well enough, to make a finer point!) Sachin T, Saurav G, Rahul D & Co do the job. Well, most of it. The sponsorship money rolls in 'coz of these boys. Someone should talk to them to get out of this rut. Take the Indian Cricket out of this mess and put it on a more even keel. These accountants and industrialists and sundry businessmen have meddled disastrously with Our Cricket. It is time things are taken from their hands and given to the professional cricketers. Past Test players in both the governing body and the selection committee. People like you have the cricketers' ears. It is about time you spoke some wisdom to them directly, rather than direct your venom at a brick wall. Have you heard anything from these 'Johnnies', on the various articles you have written, giving them a word or two of advise?? So remember, Garry Kasparov and Prakash Padukone. Maybe, you should talk to them OR may be of them?! ATJ

Message:disgusted with the BCCI and its office bearers. cricketers dont deserve the adulation they get. i say this despite being a big lover of the game and despite the fact that i would continue to watch our players playing. I sometimes feel disgusted with myself for this but cricket is in our blood.

Message:Few days ago when ACB announced that it has no plans of participating in a charity match for the earthquake affected victims in India, I felt very disappointed. I felt ashamed being in Syndey. Just before the start of the second finals between Aus vs WI, when I heard about the appeal to be shown on TV, i thought it would be just like an xyz advertisement. I totally agree with you, the way ACB, Channel-9 and World Vision appealed to the public for donation is really very much commendable. I am sure many people and organisations would come forward to contribe for this noble cause. And back in India, the BCCI is still deciding !!! We have followed the Aussies on the technology on cricket, coaching, apart from various other things. Let this be the starting point and BCCI should atleast now start to think positively and practically and should come out with a plan which is implementable.

Name:bobby sherique
Message:i support ur views 100% on this. Bcci could have straight away given money out of its coffers without any matches and give the match procedures later in the second stage.

Name:Rajaram Reddy
Message:Hi Prem, It is very easy to be critical of someone. Make a note that BCCI is not an NGO involved in charity, The ACB and channel 9 could react fast as they have an oppurtunity do so since there national team is playing at that time. Unfortunately non-cricketing matters have put our national team out of action. Yet BCCI on their part has proposed a tri-nation series in Sharjah and promised a sum of Rs.20 Crore to the Govt. of India. Considering the practical difficulties in running an organisation in a large democracy like India, BCCI has done well uptil now when you compare it with other sports organisations. By the way prem, what has Rediff done uptil now to the victims of Gujarat? Regards, Rajaram

Message:The Indian cricket team is comprised of people from that country. It contains the lowest of the low. The cricketers are chosen from these lowest of the low. It is foolish to expect them to do anythin for anyone. They are contemplating as to how they can make money and name for themselves out of the quake disaster. How do you expect these sorts of people to anything for anyone? India has always stood with a begging bowl in its hand, Again it will have to depend on foreign aid. Like every time. The same is the case with your politicians. Even God has abandoned you. Shirish

Name:Richa Bhatter
Message:An excellent article! Not just because the language used is very good but also because it is so very full of sarcasm which the BCCI has not come across as yet. Serves them right. People all over the world are ready to help the earth quake victims, but our own country men( not exactly country men, but the heart beat of our country), has not come up with anything substantial as yet! Great! What are they trying to prove with all this?? Don't they understand the intensity of the whole situation??

Message:In my opinion BCCI and cricket bodies in india are all money eating rackets. They do not have anything to do with cricket or the country. They simply want their pockets to be filled with wealth.

Name:Kapil
Message:Well all i can say is that i am shocked to read this. BCCI is one of the richest sports bodies in india and to get such a complacent attitude, on a national tragedy of this magnitude, is totally disguisting. The unfortunate part is that not even the players have come forward and pointed this out to the BCCI, and some of these players are powerful enough to do so. What can i say about BCCI, they on their part are in the business of making money. as long as their wallets are filled who the hell cares. Discussions on these donations will only give them a opportunity to get together at five-star hotels for tea parties and senseless gigles, at whose expense. And Mr Jagmohan, i guess his hunger for pocketing money is not yet over. theres more to come he feels and Sharjah tournament is a great opportunity to satisfy his greed. The sad part is even though guys like Prem Panicker are doing a great job bringing this up, is anyone listening to all this. Well who the hell cares because they very well know "who dare touch us ??" Well i think its time that the so called pwerful players in the Indian team should come forward and voice these concerns over all these issues. i know this topic has been debated over here at rediff. but if those genuine players can come up, we can definitely move forward. Prem you did a great job. i really do appreciate this one.

Name:Anupam Arora
Message:Hi Prem, Each and every one of your articles depresses me when I read about the people who are running the game. You wonder what and how much Wright can do? Why doesn't some of the high profile Indian players' revolt? I mean that's exactly what the players and the Australian Cricket Association (ACA) led by Tim May did and got agreement with the ACB. Surely, these Lele's and all cannot stand in front of the likes of Tendulkar. I mean fine the guy has done plenty for this country already in terms of making runs but what the whole country really needs is a administration body which creates a local competition which brings out and fosters players of calibre that can rise to international level. Then again this is India.....
Even after living in AustraIia for 15 years if I could only convince myself to start following the Aussies I'd enjoy watching cricket......
Rgds, Anupam

Message:hi prem, i have been following your articles for a while, let me first say this you are pretty good at writing. You can debate , you can criticize , and what not.... you are right about BCCi it sux, cant take decision to come for peoples help, if they are not there, who is going to watch their cricket. i hate to say this but, they are bunch of beurocratic buffoons. i myself donated 105 dollars from what i earn ( 750) monthly, as a student. they are waste. i am sorry to write to like this. but this is a fact. they are useless. regards mayur

Name:Ramprasad
Message:What can I say? Prem is doing a good job. And please do let him not think that there is no support for his ideas from the readers. So should be good reason enough to continue this kind of work. But do see that various other aspects of the game are covered as well.
Else it could grow on readers as monotonous and cynical.
Thanks

Message:What prevents the BCCI from donating all proceeds from the Aus-Ind series for quake relief? If they are really serious about doing anything, this is what they should do. I am just amazed by the petty minded opportunism by the Board (and Dalmiya) in trying to play Pakistan or organise more matches when ready solutions are available. Such oppotunism in the face of a traedy of this magnitude is a disgrace to Indian cricket - no wonder Australia and the other countries who rejected the idea of a quake relief tournament.
