Statistical highlights (5th day) at Ahmedabad

-- SS Das (58, on 33) became the 46th Indian and the 370th batsman in Test history to reach 1000 career runs. He now has 1025 runs (avg. 39.42) in 15 matches and 28 innings.

-- Das, incidentally became the 13th Indian to score over 1000 runs as an opener. The last one before him was his former teammate Sadagopan Ramesh earlier this year against Australia. Das, needing just 28 innings to reach this landmark became the joint fourth quickest among Indian openers. Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri needed just 20 innings, while Ramesh 25. Das emulated ML Jaisimha, who also needed 28 innings for his 1000 runs as an opener way back in 1964.

-- Deep Dasgupta's 60 was the highest score made by an Indian wicket-keeper at this venue. The only other higher score by a keeper at this venue was the 98 by West Indian Jeff Dujon in November 1983.

-- With Tendulkar failing to make a substantial score in the second innings, once again increased the disparity between his first and second innings batting averages. At the end of this Test match he has 5276 runs at an average of 64.34 in the first innings, as against an average of 46.66 while scoring 2053 runs in the second - a difference of 17.68 runs.

-- Tendulkar's 26 was now his lowest score against England at home. His previous lowest was the 50 he made at Calcutta in January 1993.

-- The opening partnership of 119 runs between Das and Dasgupta was the first for India over 100 runs against England since the 109 between Manoj Prabhakar and Navjot Sidhu at Bombay in February 1993.

-- The above partnership was the only second against England by any team in the last 41 matches. During this period from June 1998 only one other century partnership for the opening wicket was achieved against England. This was the 158 put on by Australians Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer at the Oval in August this year. The only other century partnership one could trace before this one was the 167 between West Indians Clayton Lambert and Philo Wallace at St John's in March 1998.

-- This drawn encounter was England's first after being involved in 12 Test matches in a row that had a result. During this period England had won five and lost seven. The last drawn Test was the one at Faisalabad last December.

-- Meanwhile for India it was its third drawn match in the last 20 matches since December 1999. The other drawn matches in which India were involved were the Nagpur Test against Zimbabwe in November 2000 and the recent Test at Port Elizabeth last month. During this period India won seven matches and lost ten.

-- This match was also England's first without defeat in India. Prior to this England had lost its last four Test matches in India from January 1993. The last drawn Test for England in India was the Kanpur Test in February 1985.
