Statistical highlights (2nd day) at Ahmedabad

-- England all-rounder Craig White recorded his maiden Test century in his 23rd Test and 37th innings since his debut in 1994. Among English batsmen only Wilfred Rhodes (59 innings in 1912), Mike Gatting (54 in 1984), Ray Illingworth (43 in 1969), Godfrey Evans (41 in 1950) and Mark Ramprakash (38 in 1998) need more innings than White to record their respective maiden Test hundreds. Incidentally, the Test record for the maximum innings required for a maiden hundred is 84 by Zimbabwean Alistair Campbell (102) - also against India at Nagpur in November last year.

-- White (121) bettered his previous highest Test score of 93 against Pakistan at Lahore in November 2000.

-- It was the second highest score by an Englishman against India while batting at number seven. The highest still remains as the 124 by Jack Russell at Lord's in June 1996. However, White went past the previous highest score by an English number seven in India which was the 117 by Chris Lewis at Madras in February 1993.

-- White also narrowly missed the all-time best by a visiting batsman to India at number seven which still remains as the 128 by West Indian Everton Weekes at Delhi way back in November 1948.

-- His 121 was the only second Test hundred at this ground by visiting batsman after the 105 by Pakistani Ijaz Faqih in March 1987. In all seven hundreds have been scored at this ground.

-- White, who recorded his 12th hundred of his first-class career in 195 matches since his debut in 1990, also had the distinction of reaching his 8000th first-class run, when his score reached 78. He now has 8043 runs (avg. 30.82) in 302 innings.

-- Although the partnership of 105 between White and James Foster was only the second best for England against India for the seventh wicket, it was the best for England in India bettering the previous best of 100 between David Gower and Phil Edmonds at Kanpur in February 1985.

-- Kumble (7-115) has now captured six or more wickets in a Test innings for the 10th time. The summary of his six-wicket hauls being: 6 wkts - 7 times, 7 wkts - twice and 10 wkts - once. He now goes past the tally of Kapil Dev and BS Chandrashekar - both of whom have captured six or more wickets in a Test innings on nine occasions.

-- Kumble's figures of 7-115 was the fourth best by an Indian bowler against England after Vinoo Mankad (8-55 at Madras, 1952), BS Chandrasekhar (8-79 at Delhi in 1972) and Amar Singh (7-86 at Madras, 1934).

-- Kumble achieved the second best bowling performance at this ground after Kapil Dev's 9-83 against the West Indies in November 1983, which incidentally was the first Test match to be played here. Venkatapathy Raju's 6-87 against Sri Lanka in February 1994 was the previous best by a spinner.

-- England's 407 was the highest by a visiting side at this venue. The previous highest was the 395 by Pakistan in March 1987.
