Match Report

Vintage XI won the toss and elected to bat. The openers failed again. Bradman scored a patient 50, Pollock played a good cameo, Hammond another pleasing knock, but Vintage XI was soon in trouble at 172 for 5 in 35 overs. Then Walcott, also having a good tournament and Miller, first time in his elements as a dashing batsman, added 103 runs in a better than run-a-ball stand. Both had fast fifties to their credit. Vintage XI reached a match-winning total of 275 for 5.

Tendulkar was out quickly. Greenidge was very circumspect and even though Richards was scoring very well, the scoring rate never picked up. Lara made a fairly quick 48. In the end, the target proved too much, even though Richards made a high quality century in good time. For the Vintage XI, S.F.Barnes took key wickets. The Modern XI lost by 18 runs. Probably, Greenidge should have been strategized to push the score along. Hindsight !!. The Vintage XI pulled level.

Richards was the man of the match. Walcott and Barnes were distant seconds.

The scene thus moves to England. Who would have expected it? The score 2-2 and the deciding match in the hallowed green of Lord's.
