Motorola to set up training academy for paging industry

Motorola India is setting up a training academy for paging service operators, particularly for their sales and distribution team.

This will be the first academy of its kind in the country.

The long-term strategy of the company is to aim for better consumer loyalty through enhancement of utility in an industry which, is beset with tough competition.

Ajay Sachdeva, Motorola's marketing chief for India and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, said the differentiation between product and services is the need of the hour.

"We don't want to sell just pagers. We want to sell solutions,'' he emphasised.

The company is setting up the training academy centres across the country and the first of the facilities is expected to be operational in January at New Delhi.

The duration of training will vary from centre to centre, depending on the local requirements, Sachdeva said.

The company hopes to improve the application of paging service in the country through better customer education and the cost-effectiveness of pagers. "The idea is to provide factual presentation about pagers, as there are certain barriers for the service,'' he said.

According to Sachdeva, it has also become necessary to provide education to dealers, so that they are able to convince customers of the need to own a pager.

Motorola's decision to set up the academy in the country is also in line with its international practice, he pointed out.

The company is working at training programme modules and would like to customise. Sachdeva feels that retailing would pick up in the long run with more operators aiming at building customer loyalty.

With paging service opening up in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, southern regional language pagers will be in greater demand, he predicted. "We will be launching pagers in South Indian languages next year,'' Sachdeva promised.
