From TVs to PCs

Email this story to a friend. The Videocon group, which began selling computer software and hardware last June, plans to make multimedia home computers now.

India OA Systems, part of the Videocon group and which was set up to sell computer software and hardware last June, plans to make multimedia home computers now. But the company did not announce when it would begin production.

Videocon PCs!
Chip magazine coming
Sybase's Indian focus
Software turnover up
The company is apparently still discussing the software that could be bundled into these machines and with software companies.

The company also plans to produce power inverters soon. Till now, it only marketed the products of the Triplite, US. With demand for VCRs reducing, its unit at Aurangabad which manufactures PC monitors and VCRs, has some idle capacity that the inverters can fill. As with the hardware and software, IOASL hopes to make use of Videocon's wide distribution and marketing network.

One reason the group has moved into computers is the recession in white goods market, over which Videocon has dominance. Due to falling prices and increasing use, computers have not been as badly affected. Ergo, the shift.

IOASL has also entered into deals with several foreign companies to market office products, shifting only gradually into manufacturing.
