India's 10 most attractive brands

Technology companies dominate India’s most attractive brands' list. A report by Trust Research Advisory  rates brands based on the 36 traits of the 'Attraction Quotient' across four large appeal sets - rational, emotional, aspirational and communication.

Samsung Mobiles

Samsung Mobiles is ranked as the most attractive brand in the personal gadgets category as well.

Samsung handsets have scored in terms of features, quality and competitive pricing. 

With 31.5 per cent market share in India, Samsung topped with revenues of Rs 11,328 crore (Rs 113.28 billion) in 2012-13 as compared to Rs 7,891 crore (Rs 78.91 billion) in FY12.

Founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company, Samsung entered the electronics industry in the late 1960s.

India is the 4th largest market for Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony.

Bravia, Vaio and Xperia are the biggest revenue grossers for Sony in India.

Founded in May 1946, by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita, Sony is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of electronic products.

A dominant player in India, Finnish telecommunication giant Nokia has 27.2 per cent market share.

Nokia’s revenues from Indian operations stood at Rs 9,780 crore (Rs 97.80 billion) as compared to Rs 11,925 crore (Rs 119.25 billion) in FY12, according to a Voice & Data Survey.

Nokia was the world's largest vendor of mobile phones from 1998 to 2012. However, Nokia has received a setback with rivals Samsung and Apple launching a wide range of smartphones, denting its fortunes in India. 

Incorporated in 1871, Nokia was founded by Fredrik Idestam and Leo Mechelin.

LG has become one of the fastest growing brands in India. The company plans to increase its market share with more products and competitive pricing to attract more customers.

LG plans to launch 20-30 new smartphones before December 2014.

The fourth-largest company of its kind in South Korea, Koo In-Hwoi established LG in January 1947.

The 100-year old ‘Tata’ is ranked fifth among India’s most attractive brands.

Tatas exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit of India with over 100 companies in seven business sectors ranging from communications and information technology, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer products and chemicals.

Founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata as a trading company, today the conglomerate has operations in more than 80 countries.

A global brand developed by Unilever, the Lux range includes soaps, shower gels, hair shampoos and conditioners. 

A brand with several celebrity endorsements, Lux started as ‘Sunlight Flakes’ laundry soap in 1899.

Lux soap was launched in India in 1929.

Maruti Suzuki

India’s biggest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has always found a place among India’s trusted brands.

With a diverse range of cars across different price bands, Maruti continues to rule the automobile market in India.

The auto major recorded total sales of 1,04,964 units during September 2013, against 93,988 units in the same month last year.

Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) was established in February 1981 and the first car ‘Maruti 800’ was rolled out in 1983.

Founded by Ardeshir Godrej and Pirojsha Godrej in 1897, it operates in diverse sectors such as real estate, consumer products, industrial engineering, appliances, furniture, security and agricultural products.

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd was the highest ranked Indian FMCG in ‘Asia's Hot Growth Companies' list by Business Week.

Dell India is a subsidiary of the world’s third largest PC vendor, Dell Inc.

It ranks second in market share in India. Marketing, pricing and retail strategy has paid off well for the company in India.

Founded by Michael Dell in May 1984, the company sells personal computers, laptops, servers, data storage devices, network switches, software, computer peripherals, HDTVs, cameras, printers and MP3 players.
