Jaguar F-Type: Ample dose of style, luxury and thrill

Jaguar has a long history of making sports car, which spans over 75 years. The British automaker has brought out masterpieces like the C, D and E-Type which have truly engraved their names into the history books.

The E-Type was so stunning that Enzo Ferrari called it the most beautiful car in the world.

Now Jaguar has finally got the E-Type's spiritual successor to the market, the all new F-Type. The car is finally here, ready to woo sports car buyers to the British brand.

The Jaguar F-Type features a very stunning design, which is not only eye catchy but also visually dramatic.

The exteriors of the F-Type feature very modern bits with a hint of E-Type in some areas. The bi-xenon projector headlights with a large rectangular grille dominate the front.

There are twin air intakes on either side of the front bumper and the F-Type has a long bonnet, which is typical of a modern day sports car.

The wheels on the F-Type are 18-inch on the base model, going up to 20-inch on the top-end variant.

The side profile reveals the classic sports car dimensions. The driver cockpit is not too big while the rear is rather short.

The door handles are not jutting out and it's only when you unlock the doors, the handles pop out to create a mechanical handshake. However the most beautiful part of the car is the rear.

The simple yet elegant rear of the F-Type has narrow tail lights which taper very neatly. The cleanliness is ensured by the electronically retracting rear spoiler, which rises up post 95 km/hr, generating 120 kgs of downforce.

Step inside the Jaguar F-Type and you are greeted with a cabin, which is very high in quality, with a sporty design. The interiors are very luxurious, just like other Jaguar cars.

You sit low but visibility is good and the seats are extremely comfortable offering tremendous all round support. Everything is positioned in a way that it naturally falls in the hands of the driver.

The steering wheel is a 3-spoke unit and has a plethora of buttons. The cluster has an LCD screen in between the analogue speedometer and tachometer, which shows various car data including navigation.

Then there are the loads of features inside the cabin, like the heated seats and touch screen infotainment system which even lets you record your lap times and measure the G-forces you just witnessed.

You can also tweak the throttle response and steering weight via the Configurable Dynamics option.

Being a Jaguar, there has to be something unique which in this case is the rising central AC vents, which remain hidden when you don't need them. Boot space is just 200.5 litres but enough to carry a golf bag.

The F-Type is offered with three engines - V6, V6 S and V8 S, only the latter two will be offered in India.

The V6 S uses a 3.0-litre petrol motor to produce 380 PS of power and 460 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0-100 km/hr in just 4.9 seconds, with the top speed being 275 km/hr.

The V8 S uses a 5.0-litre Supercharged petrol engine to belt out 495 PS of power and 625 Nm of torque, reaching 0-100 km/hr in 4.3 seconds with the top speed limited to 300 km/hr.

Performance from all these motors is simply breathtaking, more so in the V8 S model. There is an instant response at the slight tap of the accelerator pedal and the F-Type rushes to insane speeds before you can blink.

Accompanying all the blurred scenery is aural nirvana, with the exhausts making pleasant melody.

The F-Type also gets active exhaust notes; with a touch of a button you can further amplify the decibel levels from the high performing motors. The V8 S even cracks, burbles and blips when you downshift, it sounds insanely good.

Cog changing duty is assigned to an -speed automatic gearbox which is not only quick but extremely refined too. You can use the Sportshift gear level or the steering mounted paddle shifts to manually take control of things.

In Sports mode, the F-Type won't up shift until you do so yourself, it gives you complete control. The vehicle's soft-top roof retracts in 12 seconds and the wind in your hair feeling is truly a pleasant experience.

Jaguar has the perfect weight distribution on the F-Type and the car is extremely balanced through corners. It jinks into turns with precision and holds its line very well.

The steering has very good feel and offers stupendous feedback too. You can literally point and shoot and the F-Type remains glued to the tarmac. here is very little understeer and the V8 S feels slightly less nimble than the V6 S.

There is a Dynamic mode which further quickens gearshifts, boosts engine performance and stiffens the suspension, thereby unleashing everything it has to offer.

Brakes are sharp and speed-shedding capability is massive. High-speed stability in the F-Type is simply amazing, it doesn't leave its line even with the roof down.

Ride quality even on low profile tyres is good and the vehicle absorbs most bumps with confidence. The V8 S model feels slightly stiffer but occupants will never feel the unevenness of the road.

Jaguar will launch the F-Type in India in July, pricing it upwards of Rs 1.3 crores or Rs 13 million (ex-showroom).

This modern day sports car might not be cheap but it offers high amount of thrill with ample dose of style, luxury and vocal blast.
