Mahindra and Mahindra on Friday reported a 48 per cent rise in domestic vehicle sales in September on the back of good demand for utility vehicles and three-wheelers.
The country's largest utility vehicle and tractor maker sold 10,199 vehicles during the month against 6,890 units a year ago, an M&M spokesperson said in New Delhi.
For the first six months this fiscal, sales grew by 41.4 per cent to 50,967 vehicles.
Sale of utility vehicles in September went up by 48 per cent year-on-year to 8,149 units, with the popular model Scorpio recording a 84.7 per cent growth at 2,300 units.
Three-wheelers posted a 79.7 per cent rise at 1,515 units, but sales of light commercial vehicles remained flat at 535 units during the month under review.
M&M also sold 4,474 tractors in September, a 23.6 per cent growth over the previous year.
Utility-vehicle sales during April-September 2003 surged by 47.6 per cent to 32,952 units.
Sale of LCVs went up by 3.7 per cent to 10,278 units, while that of three-wheelers jumped by 104 per cent to 7,737 units during the period.
