Last updated on: July 25, 2006 16:11 IST
The government is considering setting up new Indian Institutes of Information Technology in the country, though the locations have not yet been decided, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

The proposed IIITs would focus on IT, along with one specific domain area of knowledge such as design, manufacturing, finance, management, library sciences and informatics, media arts and sciences, Minister of State for HRD M A A Fatmi said.

He said that a detailed project report for setting up these institutes has been prepared and was presently under consideration of the Planning Commission for its "in-principle" approval.
