The withdrawal limit from the Global Trust Bank is likely to be enhanced soon, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Wednesday.
The government had already relaxed withdrawal of money for education, medical expenses and marriage. "The present Rs 10,000 limit is also likely to be relaxed soon," he told reporters at the Chennai airport.
Asked about reports that some employers were facing problems in withdrawing money for payment of salaries, he said the matter had been brought to his notice. Steps would be taken to ease the situation, the FM said, adding that the depositors need not have any fears over their deposits, which are safe.
To a question on a probe being ordered to identify those responsible for the GTB crisis, he said: "Only after a full inquiry we will be able to say who is responsible."
