December 10, 2005 16:38 IST
Shattering all the previous records, gold prices shot up further to end at yet another new historic high of Rs 7930 on the bullion market in Mumbai on Saturday due to heavy buying by stockists as prices in the international market also shot up due to heavy speculative and fund buying.

Silver followed suit and after touching an all-time high of Rs 13,160, closed at a new high of Rs 13,155.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) opened firm at Rs 7,925 and rose further due to increased buying and closed at a new record high of Rs 7,930, showing a smart gain of Rs 50 over the previous close of Rs 7,880.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also started on a strong note at Rs 7,970, but thereafter moved in a narrow range and closed at the same level, revealing a handsome gain of Rs 45 over yesterday's close of Rs 7,925.
