November 20, 2004 17:57 IST
Gold prices zoomed across the country on Saturday to touch an all-time high of Rs 6730 per ten gram in Kolkata on revival of buying by stockists enthused by a firm trend overseas.

The yellow metal in Delhi was quoted at Rs 6655 per ten gram while it traded at Rs 6650 per ten gram in both Mumbai and Chennai.

The market witnessed a comeback by stockists to enlarge their positions amid reports that the precious metal surged in New York at $447 an ounce.

Gold futures on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange scored its third contract-high close for the week ending Friday as fund players continued to chase prices higher while the US dollar remained on a downward path.

The most active December contract (100 oz. each) settled higher by $4.10 at $447 per ounce. A rebound in crude oil prices on Friday also spurred buying in gold.
