Work at Bisleri's drinking water bottling plant at Shivaji Road, Delhi, has come to a halt since Monday.
While employees said the plant had been shut because of maintenance and "cleaning up" work, government sources said the plant stopped production after a sudden inspection by the Bureau of Indian Standards , which was acting on a consumer complaint filed on June 24.
Bisleri chairman Ramesh Chauhan denied that BIS had issued any such order. The BIS spokesperson declined to comment and said it received several quality-related complaints every day and action was taken on them.
