Corporate ethics award for ONGC, Tata Motors

The Centre for Social Responsibility, along with the Times Foundation, is organising the first two-day national conference on social responsibility from November 9, where companies from both public and private sectors will be awarded for good governance and corporate social responsibility.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will give away the Golden Peacock award instituted by the World Environment Foundation for Good Governance.

For the corporate social responsibility award, the Rail Wheel Factory has been chosen from government, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation from the public sector unit category, Tata Motors from the private sector and Times Foundation from the NGO sector.

For excellence in corporate governance, GAIL India and Shipping Corporation of India have been selected from PSU sector.

While ICICI Bank has been chosen from the private sector. Samsung India Electronics and Life Insurance Corporation have chosen for special commendation.

The theme of the conference -- Bridging the gap through corporate social responsibility -- will look at establishing the importance of transparency, equity, diversity, accountability and the need to build brand equity in CSR.
