Rajan Pillai died of asphyxia, court told

Dr L T Ramani, who conducted autopsy on late Rajan Pillai's body, told the chief metropolitan magistrate in New Delhi that the business tycoon died of asphyxia caused by blocking of blood in the respiratory system.

Deposing before CMM Prem Kumar, Ramani said blood was oozing out of Pillai's mouth and nostrils when he died.

The court has fixed August 12 as the next date for hearing.

Ramani said he was working as a medical officer at civil hospital mortuary on July 8, 1995, when Pillai died and conducted the post-mortem of Pillai's body.

Dr Ramani submitted to the court a copy of the video cassette of the post-mortem.
