This match was Pakistan's 42nd and Bangladesh's 5th in WC.

It was the their seventh meeting in LOIs and their first in a WC.

The County Ground at Northampton in Northamptonshire was hosting its second LOI match. It had hosted the South Africa v Sri Lanka encounter on 19-5-1999.

Waqar Younis was making a "come-back" to the Pakistani side after missing the last 15 matches. He last appeared against Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi on 24-11-1998.

The partnership of 69 runs between Mehrab Hossain and Shahriyar Hossain was Bangladesh's best for the first wicket against Pakistan in LOIs. The previous best was the 33 by Habib-ul Bashar and Javed Omar at Dhaka on 12-1-1998.

Incidentally, it was the highest partnership for the first wicket against the Pakistanis in this WC so far. The previous highest was the 14 runs by the West Indian pair of Sherwin Campbell and Ridley Jacobs at Bristol on 16-5-1999.

The partnership of 50 runs between Akram Khan and Amin ul Islam was the Bangladesh's best for the third wicket against Pakistan in LOIs. The previous best was the 48 run partnership between Athar Ali Khan and Amin ul Islam at Colombo on 16-7-1997.

The partnership of 39 runs between Minhajul Abedin and Khaled Mahmud was the Bangladesh's best for the sixth wicket against Pakistan in LOIs. The previous best was the 24 run partnership between Khaled Mahmud and Mohammad Rafiq at Dhaka on 12-1-1998.

Saqlain Mushtaq's 5-35 ....

. was Pakistan's best against Bangladesh in LOIs. The previous best was the 5-38 by Saqlain himself at Colombo on 16-7-1997.

was the fourth best figures by any bowler against Bangladesh in LOIs. Only Zimbabwean Bryan Strang (6-20 at Nairobi on 14-10-1997), Indian Javagal Srinath (5-23 at Dhaka on 10-1-1998) and Kenyan Aasif Karim (5-33 at Nairobi on 10-10-1997) have better figures.

was the best bowling figures against Bangladesh in a WC match. The previous best was 4-25 by West Indian Courtney Walsh at Dubin on 21-5-1999.

was the best bowling figures by a Pakistani in the WC bettering Abdul Qadir's 5-44 against Sri Lanka at Leeds in the 1983 WC.

Saqlain has now taken his tally of wickets to 199 in just 103 LOI matches.

He has also taken his tally of wickets to 13 against Bangladesh, which takes him past the previous record of 12 wickets by Kenyans Aasif Karim and Mohammad Sheikh - for the maximum wickets taken against Bangladesh in LOIs.

The total of 223-9 was Bangladesh's highest against Pakistan. The previous highest was the 210-9 at Colombo on 16-7-1997.

The two stumpings by Moin Khan equals the maximum by a keeper in the WC. Indians Syed Kirmani and Kiran More, Pakistani Wasim Bari and Bangladeshi Khaled Mashud are the only others to do so.

The partnership of 36 runs between Saqlain and Waqar was Pakistan's second best for the ninth wicket in the WC. The best still remains as the unbeaten 39 between Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Bari against England at Lord's in the 1983 WC.

Khaled Mahmud's 3-30 was the best figures by a Bangladesh bowler against Pakistan bettering the previous best of 3-50 by Hasib ul Hussain at Dhaka on 16-3-1999.

It was also the best for Bangladesh in the WC. The previous best being the 2-26 by Hasib ul Hussain against Scotland at Edinburgh on 24-5-1999.

It was Bangaldesh's third victory in LOIs and its second in the WC. Bangladesh has now won against Kenya, Scotland and Pakistan.

The 62 run defeat of Pakistan's was its second largest in a WC match. The previous largest being the 73 runs defeat against Australia at Leeds in the 1975 WC.

The total of 161 was Pakistan's third lowest in the WC. Pakistan's lowest remains as 74 against England at Adelaide in the 1992 WC.

With this loss, no team has a cent percent win record in this WC. Khaled Mahmud won his country's fourth Man of the match award and its second in the WC.
