He becomes the first Englishman and the 34th player in LOIs to do so. Rahul Dravid (53) on 26, reached his 1000th run for this calendar year. Playing in his 20th match, he becomes the first batsman to do so in 1999.

Azharuddin (26) on 8, reached his 9000th run of his career in his 320th match and 294th innings. He becomes the first batsman in LOI history to do so.

The partnership of 18 runs between Ajay Jadeja and Anil Kumble was India's best against England for the 8th wicket in the WC. The previous best was the 13 run partnership between Ravi Shastri and Manoj Prabhakar at Mumbai in 1987.

India's total of 232-8 was its highest against England in the WC. The previous best being 227 at Perth in the 1992 WC.

Alec Stewart's catch was Azharuddin's 150th of his career in his 320th match. He becomes the first fielder to do so.

The partnership of 29 runs between Darren Gough and Angus Fraser was England's best against India for the ninth wicket in the WC. The previous best was 25 runs between Graham Dilley and Paul Allott at Manchester in the 1983 WC. The pair missed by 2 runs England's all-time best for the ninth wicket against India in LOIs which was 31 runs between Graham Thorpe and Darren Gough at Sharjah on 11-4-1999.

Sourav Ganguly's 3-28 was the best figures by an Indian against England in the WC. The previous best was the 3-35 by Kapil Dev at Manchester in the 1983 WC.

Ganguly's 40 and the three wickets in the match was the best all-round performance by an Indian against England in LOIs. No other Indian all-rounder has ever managed to score a 40-plus and take three wickets against England in a LOI match.

This was Ganguly 's 14th Man of the match award in his 104th match. It was his second in successive matches in this WC.
