England vs Netherlands, Buffalo Park, East London

  • Nick Statham became the 24th player to appear in LOIs for Holland.
  • Andrew Caddick became the 24th Englishman and the 263rd pkayer in LOIs to appear in 50 or more matches.
  • Playing in his 9th LOI match Tim de Leede (58 not out) registered his maiden score of fifty-plus. His previous highest score was the 41 he made also against England at Peshawar on 22-2-1996.
  • Meanwhiile, De Leede's score was the highest by a Dutch player while batting at number six in LOIs.  Bas Zuiderent had made 54 at this position also against England at Peshawar on 22-2-1996.
  • De Leede's score was the second highest at this batting position after the unbeaten 68 by Sri Lankan Hashan Tillekeratne against New Zealand on 18-12-1994.
  • The unbeaten 30-run partnership between De Leede and Jeroen Smits was Holland's best for the last wicket in LOIs obliterating the 23 runs stand between Roland Lefebvre and Adeel Raja against Pakistan at Colombo (SSC) on 21-9-2002.
  • Playing in his 10th match of his career Jimmy Anderson recorded his best bowling figures of his LOI career. His previous best was the 2-23 he claimed against Sri Lanka at Perth on 20-12-2002.
  • Anderson emulates Alan Mullally (4-37 v Sri Lanka at Lord's on 14-5-1999) to become the second English bowler to take a four wicket haul on World Cup debut.
  • Anderson's figures are the best by an English bowler in a World Cup C match away from home. Chris Lewis had figures of 4-30 against Sri Lanka at Ballarat on 9-3-1992.
  • This was the first time in his career in 50 matches Andrew Caddick (10-4-19-0) was conceding runs less than 20 while bowling a 10-over spell. His previous economical 10-over spell was the 10-2-21-1 against Zimababwe at Kimberley on 30-1-2000.
  • Holland's 142-9 was the lowest total in an allocated 50-over match in the WC, where the team has not been dismissed. The Dutchmen out did their own record of 145-7 in 50 overs against Pakistan at Lahore on 26-2-1996. However the all time record in the WC belongs to East Africa who made 128-8 in their allocated 60 overs against New Zealand at Birmingham on 7-6-1975.
  • The man of the match award was Anderson's first of his career.
