Lyman Faris, the alleged Kashmiri terrorist, who pleaded guilty to felony charges in the United States is fully cooperating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Time reported on Monday.

Faris, whose real name is Mohammad Rauf, is making calls to FBI agents from a safe house in Virgina, even as they directed and monitored his each and every communication, including cell phone talks and e-mail messages to his bosses, the magazine said.

A Justice Department official termed Faris' detention and the progress in interrogation as a 'huge triumph'.

In a bid to persuade Faris to cooperate, the FBI has offered to move his family in Pakistan out of harm's way and avoid Al Qaeda retaliation, the Time said quoting law enforcement officials.

Faris, who hails from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is said to have met Osama Bin Laden and was involved in plots to blow up Brooklyn Bridge in New York, blow up aircrafts and derail trains.

The FBI and federal prosecutors are investigating some Maryland-based associates of Faris' acquaintance Majid Khan, who, the officials say was tapped by Al Qaeda to lead an operation to blow up gas stations in the US.

Investigators are also focussing on a group of at least dozen, most of them Muslims, in the Washington area who studied under a local Islamic scholar, Time said.

According to the magazine, an intelligence report in as early as 2002 said Al Qaeda planned to derail a train in the industrial corridor of northeast Washington, hoping to smash the cars into tanks of hazardous chemicals stored near the tracks.
