February 24, 2003 20:08 IST

The Haryana government will soon set up a planetarium at Kurukshetra in the memory of Indian American astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who was killed with 6 others in the Columbia shuttle crash.

Making the announcement at the annual function of a Kanya Gurukul [girls' college] in Sonepat district on Sunday evening, Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala said his government has already instituted the Kalpana Chawla Memorial Gold Medal and a cash award of Rs25,000 for the girl student getting highest marks in Class X examination conducted by Haryana School Education Board.

A scholarship of Rs2000 per month will also be awarded in Kalpana's memory to five girls obtaining maximum marks in the combined entrance examination for all engineering colleges in the state, an official release said on Monday.
