Rosalind Russell in Baghdad | April 17, 2003 21:17 IST

US forces captured Saddam Hussein's half-brother Barzan Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti in Baghdad on Thursday.

US Army Brigadier General Vincent Brooks said Tikriti, a former head of intelligence, was captured in a raid that showed US-British 'commitment to relentlessly pursue the scattered members of a fractured regime'.

Brooks described Barzan, number 52 on a US list of 55 most wanted Iraqis, as having 'extensive knowledge of the regime's inner working'.

Last weekend, Watban Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti, another Saddam half-brother, was taken into US custody trying to cross into Syria.
