American Indians pray for victims of attacks

Hindus and Sikhs held a 90-minute candle light vigil at Edison in New Jersey on Thursday to pray for the victims of terrorist attacks in the United States.

With candles in hands, they stood by the roadside in a line stretching almost a kilometre.

Passing motorists honked to express their support.

Indian Ambassador-at-large Dr Bhishma Agnihotri and Member of Parliament Ratilal Varma joined the vigil.

The vigil was jointly organised by the Sikh Sangat of America, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Swaminarayan Sanstha and Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America.

The participants carried banners reading 'Hindu-Sikh hand-in-hand against terrorism' and 'Hindu-Sikh pray for victims.'

Edison is pre-dominantly inhabited by immigrants from the Indian subcontinent.
