Bush says stability in Pakistan is important

President George W Bush on Tuesday said a stable Pakistan is very important for a stable world.

He was answering a question whether Pakistan should follow the example of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates and withdraw recognition to the Taleban government in Afghanistan.

"After all, Pakistan has nuclear weapons, and we want stability in countries that may have nuclear weapons," Bush said while appearing before the media with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

He also welcomed the provision of $40 million by Japan in humanitarian assistance to the Pakistanis, and said, "I want to thank him for that. We, too, are providing humanitarian assistance for people in that world, as are the Saudis. And that is an important part of the coalition, to understand that one of the issues is to make sure that Pakistan is a stable country."

Meanwhile, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf expressed concern about the integrity of Afghanistan and ruled out snapping of diplomatic relations with the Taleban regime.

Musharraf told a meeting of leaders of Pakistan occupied Kashmir that he was concerned about the unity and integrity of Afghanistan and wished that it remained intact.

Earlier, Musharraf had told in an interview to state owned PTV that Pakistan should continue diplomatic relations with Taleban in order to keep them engaged.
