Pak stops issuing visas to Afghans

In an effort to stem the flow of refugees from across the border, Pakistan has stopped issuing visas to Afghans, a consular official at Islamabad's embassy in Kabul said.

The Pakistan foreign ministry had issued a directive to this effect, the official said.

"If Allah is kind then very soon we will resume issuing visas. This is a temporary measure," he told a news agency.

Fearing an attack by the United States, an estimated 15,000 people crossed into Pakistan during the last week.
