Taleban chief calls Islamic scholars to discuss Osama

The spiritual leader of the Taleban, Mullah Mohammad Omar, on Monday said he had convened a meeting of Islamic scholars from all over Afghanistan to take a decision on whether to hand over Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden to the United States, the official radio reported.

Mullah Omar told visiting Pakistani officials that a meeting of Ulema, or Islamic scholars, from every province had been convened to discuss the issue, Radio Shariat said.

The six-member Pakistan team, headed by Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lieutenant General Mehmood Ahmed, was in Afghanistan to try and convince the Taleban to hand over Osama bin Laden.
