Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi was shot dead in an east Jerusalem hotel on Wednesday.
Zeevi headed an ultra-nationalist party and had announced on Monday that he would defect from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's coalition government.
Sharon announced on Tuesday that he would accept a Palestinian state but would impose strict limitations on it.
Pressure is mounting on both -- the Palestine authority and the Israeli government -- to sort out their differences.
